Belief

A belief is something held to be true despite the fact there is no evidence to support the idea.

A belief is like a lens or filter that contextualizes perception.

Beliefs are a part of your model of reality and serve a purely cultural purpose. A "believer" tends to have a generalized idea on a subject (a model). This idea could be right or wrong, however, it's usually an idea that the larger culture does not share. He seeks out those with similar ideas. Once finding this community, the believer finds his initial ideas validated as well as developed by those who have spent more time in the community. The believer is then trained in the way that the community thinks about that idea as well as all other ideas. Once the process is completed, the believer will be able to indoctrinate others. Thus, beliefs are one way in which communities begin, develop, and spread very similarly to viruses.

As perception is already pre-processed and subjective, there is no benefit to running yet another process to further distort your perception of reality.
